History of the Centre

In 1944 The sub-division of Burkeville was completed. The community elected a five-member board to organize social activities. What we now know as Burky’s Preschool began one year later in 1945 as a kindergarten for neighbourhood children.
The Hall was renovated in 1943-44 although the orginal building date is unknown. The Sea Island Hall was turned over to the City on 1947 with an agreement to operate it as a Community Centre. In 1952 the community asked that the building be ‘rejuvenated’. In 1999, the Sea Island Hall was once again granted a renovation, and a grand re-opening was held to celebrate our new multi-purpose room, office, washrooms and lounge/meeting room.
